HAVE YOU SEEN THE NARCOOSSEE HISTORIC SIGN?

Our Chapter is excited the northbound historic Narcoossee
sign has now been installed on Narcoossee Road (near
Chisholm Park turnoff).  The winning design for the sign,
submitted by Osceola County resident, Darlene Waniel, reflects
so many cool things about our local history – Narcoossee’s
founding date of 1884; a
“Little Black Bear” to reflect the
English translation of the Native American word “Narcoossee”;
East Lake Tohopekliga; our steamboat history (wharf pilings
and rope lines); the Sugar Belt Railway (railroad ties); and
construction using native woods like cypress and mahogany.
We look forward to the southbound sign installation (near the Narcoossee schools) to be completed in early 2017.
